Shut Up & Write!® at WERKS Middle Street

Start your week by writing up a storm at our Brighton Shut Up & Write!® event.

We meet on Monday evenings from 6.30pm – 8.30pm at WERKS Brighton’s Middle Street location (15-17 Middle Street Brighton, BN1 1AL).

Please note that there will be NO EVENT on Monday 29 September. Events will resume as normal on Monday 6 October.

All writers are welcome, whatever your level of experience, and whether you’re working on a book, screenplay, script, poem, dissertation, journal or even work stuff. This is not a critique or workshop session so there will be no sharing your work and no one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice.

Our regular Monday sessions in central Brighton are focused on quiet writing with a short break in the middle and some time at the end to chat and socialise.

SCHEDULE:
18:30 - Quick introductions
18:45 - Timer starts: write for 45 minutes
19:30 - Break for 15 minutes
19:45 - Timer starts: write for 45 minutes
20:30 - The end! Time to chat, grab a drink, or keep typing if you’re in the flow!

Writing can be a solitary business, and writing together makes it so much easier. The breaks and social time can also a great opportunity to meet other writers who are working in your genre, find critique partners, and chat about what you’re reading.

Get yourself into great habits for the week, every week.

Venue guidelines:
Please buy a drink from our host venue. WERKS Cafe offers loads of lovely coffees, teas, soft drinks and snacks to fuel your writing. Please do not bring in food and drink from outside.

Event guidelines:
Don't worry about being late or leaving early. Just get settled and check in with the host whenever you can during the session.

Please RSVP if you can (though don’t be put off by low numbers of RSVPs on MeetUp as people also find us in other ways!)

Bring whatever you need to write. WERKS is a quiet space, but bring earbuds/earplugs if you want to block the cafe’s overhead music or the occasional conversation by other patrons. If you’re bringing a laptop, try to make sure it’s charged beforehand in case there aren’t enough plug sockets.
