Shut Up & Write!® in person Tuesday mornings in Arlington (LGBTQ-friendly!)
Details
Join us for some focused writing time! It’s often enormously helpful to write in the company of other writers. See if that’s true for you from 10:30am-~12:40pm on Tuesdays.
Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, résumé, melody, poem, fiction, or work stuff, you're invited to write it with us. All writers and all experience levels are welcome. No one will see what you've written (unless you specifically ask to share it) or give you unsolicited advice. This session is about getting your writing done and meeting other writers in your area.
Note: This session is a place for all writers to be and to write comfortably, with a special welcome to members who, like the host, identify as LGBTQ or NB.
SCHEDULE:
10:30 - Quick hellos and get settled.
10:45 - Session 1: “Pomodoro” timer starts; write for 50 minutes
11:30 - Brief break—stretch, get coffee, etc. (15 minutes)
11:45 - Session 2: “Pomodoro” timer starts; write for 50 minutes
12:35 – Goodbyes & optional socializing
FOOD/DRINK: Not a requirement but, if you can, please buy food or drink to thank the café and the Highrock Covenant Church for hosting us.
BEING LATE/LEAVING EARLY: Sure, but please wait for the break if you can. In either case, please get settled in or leave as quietly as possible so as not to distract other writers.
PHONES: Off or on silent during writing sessions. Pls don’t get up to take a call unless it’s an emergency.
WHAT TO BRING: We’ll meet in a private room adjacent to the café (Room 1 — walk back and to the right as you enter the café). It’s a LOT quieter there, but you might still want earbuds/earplugs in case there’s spillover conversation or other background sound from the café proper. You’re welcome to bring food/coffee back there.
ELECTRICITY: There are limited plugs in Room 1, so consider running on battery power if you’re writing on a device.
WIFI: The Mill Café does have WiFi.
PARKING/PUBLIC TRANSPO: There is metered street parking in the area and four-hour free parking on Academy and on Jason (nearby) as well as on Pleasant Street beside the Unitarian Church—about a six-minute walk to the cafè. A 4-hr paid lot is located behind the church. Busses 67, 77, and 79 run nearby.
I look forward to seeing and writing with you.
