What we're about

Welcome to Shy Bis & Gay Guys!

(formerly "Shy Gay and Bi Men")

A group for Gay, bi men who would like to meet others that do not always find it easy socialising and meeting new people.

===

INTRODUCTION

Shyness and social anxiety can hold guys back from forming meaningful platonic and romantic relationships. It can be tough enough ‘coming out’, but being introverted can make it even more of a challenge and sometimes you need a gentle push.

So, whether you consider yourself to be ‘gay’, ‘bi’, ‘bi-curious’, ‘pansexual’ or any other label; whether you are ‘in the closet’, ‘out’ or in the process of ‘coming out’; whether you are vulnerable or feel at risk, this group brings us together. We embrace those who have experienced depression, anxiety, loneliness or isolation, especially if you may be considered on the spectrums of ADHD, Autism & Asperger’s, Bipolar, OCD and/or Schizophrenia.

You may be a highly sensitive person who experiences intense highs and lows to an extreme degree. You may be an artistic Creative with a vivid inner world hidden and locked away. You may feel easily overwhelmed by large groups of people, unsettled by the turbulence of the LGBT dating scene or sidelined/neglected in a whirlwind of rapidly spinning social circles. Anxiety may have even prevented you from moving forwards in friendships and relationships with other people because you are afraid of either hurting or getting hurt. This Meetup group is designed for you!

Have you ever taken years to build up the confidence to go to an event only to be disappointed? Want to attend an LGBT event but held back by your shyness? Simply come as you are. There is no need to pretend anymore. This is a get together for people who do not want to be on their own, to feel comfortable and foster a nice, friendly circle of people. And if you would like to come but do not feel like talking much, then that is cool, too! Take it at your own pace.

DETAILS

This free group is for friendship and dating, designed to reach out to others and create mutual support. The concept is simple: helping one other get out there in the world. Some meet-ups will be limited to 6 or 12 places so that it is not too overwhelming for new members. I will provide my contact details 24 hours before each event either in a group email or in a private message. Do feel free to get in touch if you would like to have a chat about the event before you attend!

I do not charge fees for attending our meet-ups. All I ask is that a one-off discretionary donation is made for your first time. This is to help cover the cost of running the group. Meetup groups are not free to run and cost £180 over the course of a year. I have put a link below (Paypal) where you give a one-off donation of £10 (or any amount) to help out. The group will always remain free so there is no obligation but it would be greatly appreciated. The link works on both desktops and smartphones.

Twilighting @ Central Station, Kings Cross

Central Station

Hello Guys!

Twilighting is a chilled, relaxed early evening Friday drinks meeting at Central Station, one of London's popular LGBTQ+ venues. Starting relatively early (at 6, or anytime after 5 if you are up for it!) and extending into the evening.

During the darker months, we will be inside in their upstairs Peacock Room. There is a great selection of drinks available and a food menu, here: https://www.centralstation.co.uk/food

Later on, there is karaoke in the main bar - definitely worth checking out and a lot of fun!

The event is FREE (only need to RSVP) and as always, in the spirit of twilighting, we will be starting bright and early for some open-ended relaxing, socialising and improvisational dialogues.

* * * PLEASE NOTE * * *
Due to COVID-19 safety regulations, you will be required to show proof of 2 jabs (details of how to do this will be updated here in due course). When you arrive, please log your details on a form at the main entrance. No jabs, no entry. Please also note that this event is subject to cancellation pending further government restrictions.

Rise & Shy @ Clapham Common

Clapham Common

Wakey, Wakey, Rise & Shy!

A gay meet-up combining a brisk, morning fun run with a delicious breakfast. Guaranteed to make you feel refreshed and rejuvenated and set you up for the week ahead. And what better date to spring forward than Sunday 27th March, to welcome in the longer daylight hours and much needed sunshine?

Note: since the clocks go forward, I am scheduling in this meet-up an hour later to give you guys an extra lie-in ;)

The plan... First, we run. Then, we brunch.
11:00 - Meet @ Clapham Common Tube Station
11:15 - Start running
11:45 - Stop running - Meet @ Clapham Common Bandstand
12:00 - Breakfast & Socialising @ The Breakfast Club, Battersea Rise

We will aim for 1 or 2 laps around the common. If you feel like running with us for a bit and joining us back at the bandstand - no problem! Take it at your own pace. The goal is to enjoy, not exert. Just aim to be back at the bandstand for 11:45, when we will take a leisurely stroll 5 minutes to the Breakfast Club, Battersea Rise, which is on the west side of the common, near Clapham Junction.

If you do not feel like running or you are not an early bird, just come for the breakfast and socialising from 12:00! I will have my phone juiced up and on standby throughout the morning, should you need to find us at any point.

Dress code: completely casual. Funky hats welcome!

See you there!

FAQ

1/ I am not a great runner - can I still join?
Yes, absolutely. Come along, whatever your level. I recommend that you are able to run for 15 mins without stopping. If you are starting out with running, or you want an easy session, take a walk with us in the park instead.

2/ How far will I be running?
Between 1-2 laps of the common (depending on how far you would like to run). Choose however you feel comfortable with and feel free to take break/s in the middle if you need to.

3/ Do I need any special gear?
Not at all, all you need is a pair of trainers. You do not need to splash out on any specialist gear. If you are planning on running, trainers will protect your feet much better than shoes, sandals or flip-flops. Apart from that, just dress for the weather and wear something you would feel comfortable running in.
