What we're about

Welcome to Shy Bi's & Gay Guys!

(formerly "Shy Gay and Bi Men")

A group for Gay, bi men who would like to meet others that do not always find it easy socialising and meeting new people.

===

INTRODUCTION

Shyness and social anxiety can hold guys back from forming meaningful platonic and romantic relationships. It can be tough enough ‘coming out’, but being introverted can make it even more of a challenge and sometimes you need a gentle push.

So, whether you consider yourself to be ‘gay’, ‘bi’, ‘bi-curious’, ‘pansexual’ or any other label; whether you are ‘in the closet’, ‘out’ or in the process of ‘coming out’; whether you are vulnerable or feel at risk, this group brings us together. We embrace those who have experienced depression, anxiety, loneliness or isolation, especially if you may be considered on the spectrums of ADHD, Autism & Asperger’s, Bipolar, OCD and/or Schizophrenia.

You may be a highly sensitive person who experiences intense highs and lows to an extreme degree. You may be an artistic Creative with a vivid inner world hidden and locked away. You may feel easily overwhelmed by large groups of people, unsettled by the turbulence of the LGBT dating scene or sidelined/neglected in a whirlwind of rapidly spinning social circles. Anxiety may have even prevented you from moving forwards in friendships and relationships with other people because you're afraid of either hurting or getting hurt. This Meetup group is designed for you!

Have you ever taken years to build up the confidence to go to an event only to be disappointed? Want to attend an LGBT event but held back by your shyness? Simply come as you are. There’s no need to pretend anymore. This is just a get together for people who don’t want to be on their own, to feel comfortable and foster a nice, friendly circle of people. And if you want to come but don’t feel like talking much, then that’s cool, too! Take it at your own pace.

Women are also very welcome! :-)

DETAILS

This free group is for friendship and dating, designed to reach out to others and create mutual support. The concept is simple: helping one other get out there in the world. Some meet-ups will be limited to 10 places so it’s not too overwhelming for new members. Simplicity is key — by thorough advance checking of details, e.g., seating, cloakroom, dress code etc., we can properly manage expectations and minimise the risk of social pitfalls so do feel free to get in touch if you wish to have a chat about the event before you attend!

I'll bring a large sign so you can quickly find us on arrival and stickers will be provided on which to write your name. Being shy and introverted can mean you’re concentrating so hard on getting the interaction right, you often forget their name or forget to ask (I’m prone to that)!

I don’t charge fees for attending our meet-ups. All I ask is that a one-off discretionary donation is made for your first time. This is to help cover the cost of running the group. Meetup groups are not free to run and cost £130 over the course of a year. I've put a link below (Paypal) where you give a one-off donation of £5 (or any amount) to help out. The group will always remain free so there is no obligation but it would be greatly appreciated. The link works on both desktops and smartphones.

Shine & Dine @ Las Iguanas, Waterloo

Las Iguanas London - Royal Festival Hall

Hi guys! This is a general introductory drinks and food gathering, a chance for us to get together and meet one another, relax, have a laugh and make some new friends and acquaintances along the way. We'll have some twilight drinks and food by the river in Las Iguanas, Waterloo (next to the Southbank Centre). Las Iguanas restaurant is home to fresh & authentic Brazilian, Mexican & Latin American food & cocktails. London’s Southbank Centre is home to a slice of Latin American life, at Las Iguanas situated on Festival Terrace. At 10:30 pm, I'll be continuing the Latin fiesta over at La Cubana Waterloo (www.cubana.co.uk/location/waterloo) a brisk 5-minute walk away, where I'll be playing keyboard with a 5-piece salsa band. Free entry, fab cocktails and live music until 3 AM! To keep things light and simple, numbers are limited to 10 places so do register early to avoid disappointment! === LOCATION Las Iguanas, Festival Terrace, Southbank Centre, Belvedere Road Unit 14, SE1 8XX London, United Kingdom Telephone[masked] Directions Waterloo (Bakerloo, Jubilee, Northern, Waterloo & City, SWR): exit the station, cross under the railway bridge and walk across the market. Take the stairs up to the left of the Southbank Centre. Las Iguanas is the last bar on your left, facing the river. Charing Cross (Bakerloo, Northern) / Embankment (Circle, District, Northern): exit the station, cross one of the Golden Jubilee Bridges (more easily the northernmost bridge) and descend the steps. Las Iguanas is opposite the Southbank Centre. === DETAILS This free group is for friendship and dating, designed to reach out to others and create mutual support.
