Renee Restivo, Soul of S.

Founder of this Group; Writer & Founder of

New York, NY

Organizer since:

December 23, 2016

Please tell us if you have ever been to Sicily and why you are interested in joining this group.

I have traveled every inch of the island I think. I created this group b/c New York needed an organization to celebrate Sicily's food, wine and culture. I really created this group b/c I felt "homesick" when I was away from Sicily. My dream project Soul of Sicily was the inspiration for this club in so many ways, as I wanted to create a similar kind of feeling to that of my programs in Noto, Sicily.

Do you speak Italian and/or Sicilian? If so, what level?

Si! Fluent Italian. Some Sicilian too... I'm always learning more. Northern Italians often tell me that I speak Italian like their grandparents do, b/c I've picked up some of the intonation and vocabulary of traditional Southern Sicilians over the years.

Send us your favorite memory, story or thought about Sicily please.

listening to Sicilians exchange gelato recipes and talk about capers while traveling on the scenic train ride from Messina to Naples.

What would you like to learn most about Sicily and its food? What are your interests?

I would like to know what you are all most curious about and how many of you have traveled there. I enjoy Italian language, food photography, writing and lots more!

Have you tasted the food & wine of Sicily? What do you know about it?

Si! I have devoted a decade of my life to studying it, and working and traveling throughout Sicily to learn as much as possible about it!

Ciao! I am the founder of NYC Siclian Food, Wine & Travel Club, one of the city's most exciting food groups! I am also the founder of Soul of Sicily. Subscribe to my newsletter at I appeared on the Travel Channel's Sicily show!
