Sierra Club Crossroads Group

This presentation by Brett Swanson will include a discussion of his recent fifteen-day adventure in Vietnam, both in cities and the countryside, beginning in Hanoi and ending in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) and the Mekong Delta. Brett will provide an overview of Vietnam encompassing background information on the nation and its people, while providing details on its history and environmental challenges.
Brett Swanson is a retired automotive engineer that lives in Hartland Township. As a young child, before the Vietnam War, he lived with his family in Saigon. He has always wanted to return. He is active in the Sierra Club Crossroads group as an Outings and Conservation Leader.

This programs is free and open to the public.

Join us for a 4-mile night hike on the Hickory Ridge trail. Part of our hike will be lit with lanterns, but headlamps or flashlights may be needed on the other parts of the trail (and not allowed in the lantern section).
Be sure to dress warm.

We recommend you wear ice cleats (such as Hillsound Trail Crampon Ice Cleats or Kahtoola Microspikes) as it may be hard to see slippery patches.

There will be a campfire at the beginning and end of the hike courtesy of the Friends of Island Lake.

NOTE: people who want a shorter hike can do the regular lantern hike on their own – this is around 1.5 miles and you can start any time between 6pm and 8:45pm.
