The Sierra Club is the largest and oldest (founded in 1892) environmental organization in the world. The Crossroads Group of the Sierra Club serves greater Livingston County in Michigan. Our mission is to get people outside to enjoy the natural world leading to their understanding and desire to protect it for our families and for our future. Due to the cold weather we are postponing this event to Saturday May 31st at 3pm.
Let’s mindfully meander through the peony garden at Nichols Arboretum and leisurely walk down to the river and back together! This garden is over a century old and is world-renowned for its collection of over 800 peonies.
We will have an optional early dinner together after our walk at a nearby restaurant.
Note: parking is free on weekends, and fills up quickly. Please arrive 10-15 minutes early.
- Detroit Dequindre Cut and Eastern Market Mural urban hike, plus lunch at VegFestDequindre Cut Parking Lot, Detroit, MI
Join us for around 4 miles of urban hiking as we explore Detroit's Dequindre Cut Greenway and the many murals of Eastern Market, followed by lunch at VegFest.
We will wander the streets around Eastern Market to admire the many great murals on neighborhood buildings. Then we will hike along the Dequindre Cut paved path to the Detroit riverfront and back.
Once back at Eastern Market, we will have lunch at VegFest (a huge annual festival featuring over 100 vendors selling all types of delicious vegan foods and earth-friendly products).
NOTE: dogs are not allowed at VegFest.We will start at the Dequindre Cut Parking lot at the corner of Wilkins and Orleans. Click the map attached to this meetup to get exact directions.
Please make sure to give yourself plenty of time to arrive early for a 10AM departure. There may be traffic for the Detroit Grand Prix. Also, it will be difficult to find us if you are late.Mural map (click each dot on the map to learn more about each mural)
