City Park Urban Nature Walk

Details
Please join Helen Sierminski of Nola Sidewalk Gardens for an Urban Nature Walk through the City Park Neighborhood on Sat, June 7th . We will meet at the Anseman Oak on Anseman Ave at 8:45am, on the right after you enter the Park, before crossing the bridge over the lagoon, then start at 9. Parking is available in lots just over the lagoon bridge. As we enter the neighborhood, we will encounter at least 2 properties that are certified Native Plant Habitats.
This is a mindfulness walk where we focus on noticing and appreciating the nature that we see around us. We will allow ourselves to be inspired by the trees, plants, birds, flowers and lizards that we see, admiring the gardens and urban wildlife.
City Park Neighborhood is a small triangle of homes just below City Park, a subdistrict of the Lakeview District area. Its boundaries are Allen Toussaint Blvd to the N, Bayou St John to the E, Orleans Ave, North Carrollton Ave and Toulouse St to the S, and City Park and Orleans Ave to the W. City Park is one of the largest parks in the country and the land was once the home of Chapitoulas and Houmas Native Americans. It then became the Allards plantation before it was sold to John McDonough who willed the land to the city in the 1850s.
Helen is a certified Master Naturalist and is currently serving on the board for the Native Plant Initiative of Greater New Orleans.
Bring your binoculars! Tips Appreciated.
Membership applications for anyone interested in joining the New Orleans Group of the Sierra Club will be available to anyone who wants to get more active!!!
