Nature Walk: Cool Spring Preserve, Charles Town, WV
Cool Spring Preserve, 1469 Lloyd Road, Charles Town, WV, US1.5-mile, easy hike. Cool Spring Nature Preserve is a 63-acre tract of land owned and managed by the Potomac Valley Audubon Society. It features forest, meadow, and marsh, and is bordered on one side by Bullskin Run. It is designated as a birding “hot spot” and also has significant historical value, since much of the tract was once owned and leased out by George Washington. We will hike the perimeter trail plus explore a few of the cross sections featuring old orchards or avian flyways. This hike is appropriate for families or adults capable of handling unpaved trails on gently rolling terrain. Well-behaved dogs on leashes are welcome. There is no charge for this hike, though donations to PVAS for their expenses at Cool Spring are welcome.
Bring water and, if desired, a snack. We will carry on in light rain but cancel for heavy rain.

This hike is suitable for those able to maintain a moderate pace for several hours on rugged terrain. There is no charge for this hike, but donations are welcome.
Bring water and lunch. Dress in layers for varying temperatures. Hiking poles may be helpful for some. We will carry on in light rain but cancel if icy conditions or a storm is expected.
