Event: “Protecting our Fungal Future,” a guided walk at the WVU Woodlot / Baker's Ridge
Distance/Difficulty: 3 miles/MODERATE
Duration: 2 hours
Description: Dr. Matt Kasson is an associate professor of forest pathology and mycology at WVU. He will guide us on this walk through the WVU Woodlot, identifying mushrooms and fungi and educating us on the importance of their conservation. The woodlot is a loop through woods and along creeks. The hike is moderate in difficulty, with loose gravel and hills. We will make frequent stops and focus on locating fungi.
Bring: Sunscreen, water, a snack, insect repellant, footwear for rugged terrain
Meet: 11 a.m. WVU Baker’s Ridge Trailhead. The lot is ½ mile east of Stewartstown Rd. on the south side of West Run Rd. You will see a parking lot off to the side of West Run Road. The WVU Farm Woodlot informative sign and trailhead is directly across the street.
