Sierra Club FOJG Trash Pickup and Slave Trail Talk at Ancarrow's Landing

Details
Help keep trash out of the James River with Sierra Club members, supporters, and Friends of the James River Park Homepage - Friends of James River Park at Ancarrow's Landing and Historic Slave Docks. Following the one-and-a-half-hour trash pickup with provided trash pickers and bags, Ralph White, former director of the James River Park System, will give a 20-30 talk about the history of Ancarrow's Landing. This spot was a major port in the massive Slave Trade that made Richmond the largest source of enslaved Africans on the east coast of America from 1830 to 1860. For decades, a chemical plant operated here, but successful remediation and restoration have made it a prime fishing spot and is where anglers compete during the annual run of native shad.
Shavon Peacock and Ralph Grove will be your Sierra Club outing leaders. Josh Stutz, Executive Director of the Friends of the James River, will also be there and provide trash pick up equipment.
