This Shenandoah National Park hike will cover six miles, starting at Jarman Gap and include the Appalachian Trail (AT) and Turk Mountain Summit trail. We will then retrace our steps back to Jarman Gap. The first 45 minutes to an hour will be a fairly steady uphill climb of 948 feet with a view of the mountains to the north. We will cross Skyline Drive, take in the view of Sawmill Run Overlook, continue on the AT and then take a .9 mile hike with a 702 foot climb to the Turk Mountain Summit. To reach the summit we will do some boulder scrambling and then take in the fantastic views of the Shenandoah Valley and Waynesboro. We will have lunch on the summit and then retrace our steps, where the last 45 minutes will be downhill! The hike is strenuous due to the distance and elevation change. Total hiking time will be about four hours; total elevation change about 1650 ft.
