Fossil Creek has long been recognized as a special place with travertine waters, a tremendous diversity of wildlife, native fisheries and cultural history.

Fossil Creek was designated as a Wild and Scenic River in March of 2009.

By the designation, the Forest Service is directed to develop and implement a Comprehensive River Management Plan.

Fossil Creek is the boundary between the Coconino and Tonto National Forests. Both Forests have been involved with the process.

The Comprehensive River Management Plan (CRMP) recognizes the Outstanding Remarkable Values and provides the direction for future management.

A team of specialists have been assigned to develop the CRMP. The team includes a wildlife biologist, archeologist, recreation specialist, hydrologist, geologist and an engineer. The team is going through the NEPA process to develop alternatives, analyze the alternatives, and disclose the impacts of the actions proposed in the alternatives.

Once an alternative is selected the components of the alternative will be rolled into the CRMP.

Charlotte Minor willl give an overview of Fossil Creek, the Outstanding Remarkable Values, the NEPA process we are following, what is next and how members of the organization can be involved.
