Join us for the Sierra Club Adventure Coast Group Meetup on Wednesday, March 18th, 2026, at 6:30 pm with guest speaker Katie Mastenbrook of the National Wildlife Federation’s Gulf Program.
Katie will present on plans underway by the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council to create the Tampa Bay Coastal Master Plan (TBCMP) involving community stakeholders and local governments in six counties in the Tampa Bay Area, including Hernando and Citrus Counties. The Plan will serve as a blueprint and guide to protect human and natural communities from coastal and inland flooding resulting from sea level rise and intensifying hurricanes. The goal is to use nature-based solutions and green infrastructure to protect human and natural communities as we face increasing environmental stressors.
Katie Mastenbrook is the Senior Wildlife Policy Specialist for the National Wildlife Federation’s Gulf Program, where she leads efforts to support resilient coasts and wildlife habitats across the Gulf Coast. Based in St. Petersburg and a Florida resident for 17 years, Katie joined NWF last summer and has been advancing policy collaboration, statewide wildlife-friendly lighting ordinance updates, and outreach for the Tampa Bay Coastal Master Plan. She holds a B.S. in Marine Science with a minor in Environmental Science from Coastal Carolina University. Prior to NWF, Katie served as the Pinellas County Florida Sea Grant Extension Agent through UF/IFAS and as Director of Education for Tampa Bay Watch. She is passionate about work at the intersection of science, community, and conservation.
