Andesite Peak Loop from Castle Peak Trailhead

Please Join us for a 9 AM morning hike up to Andesite Peak, located northwest of Donner Pass. We'll follow the Castle Valley North Road to the Hole in the Ground trail then up a dozen switchbacks and 800 feet through a forested slope to Andesite Peak. Our return will be via Castle Pass and Castle Valley North Road for a gentler descent.

The hike is about 6 miles. We plan to take a 20 minute break at the top and admire the grand views. The total time for this hike will be approximately 3.5 to 4 hours roundtrip including the break. Elevation gain will be about 950 feet. This hike is considered Moderately Strenuous.

For those who want to CAR POOL, we will meet at 8:00 AM in the parking area between Del Taco, IHOP, and Tires Plus off of McCarran Blvd west just north of I80.

Hiking boots and poles are recommended - there may be some snow on the trail. Dress in layers as it may start off chilly. As always, bring water and snacks to keep yourself hydrated and energized. Well behaved dogs on a leash are welcome.
