Lakes Basin Lake Loop Hike

Details

This is a favorite loop hike of mine in the Lakes Basin area above Graeagle. We will trek by six different beautiful, wooded lakes. The hike is a little over 7 miles and has 1,427 feet of elevation gain at a moderately fast pace. This hike is considered to be moderately challenging because of the gain and how rocky the trail is in places, so probably not a good beginner outing or for anyone that has trouble with balance. It will be important to wear good trail shoes, I recommend trekking poles, layered clothing, a minimum of a Liter of water, and bring lunch for our break. We will also stop at a beach for a break where you can cool your feet off or take a quick dip if there is time. There may still be some great wildflowers for great photo opportunities. I will point out some of the flora and fauna as we are trekking.

There will be a waiver to sign at the trailhead and a $1 donation to support Great Basin Group's Outings, Program Meetings, and our Get-Kids-Outdoors Grant Program for disadvantaged schools to support environmentally oriented field trips. Well-mannered dogs are welcome. Please have a leash if needed. Also, because of the distance from local medical care I will need all participants to have their medical form filled out and bring it with you. I will ask to see that you have one and then you can carry it in your own daypack. You can download this using the following link: Sierra Club Medical Form.

Often folks ask about ride-sharing. We encourage this to save on fuel emissions and limited parking at the trailhead, However, the Outing does not begin until we are at the Trailhead. Please plan to help out drivers with a few dollars for fuel. We will meet at the Raley's parking lot at 9:30 AM and carpool/caravan to the trailhead. Driving to the trailhead will take about an hour, depending on traffic. Thanks, and I look forward to having a great hike with you!
