Nice weather is on the way, and it's time to go hiking! Lead your own Sierra Club outings! Take this class and Basic First Aid to get started. BRING $5 to help cover expenses. The Outings Leader Training 101 (OLT101) course includes:

  1. An overview of Sierra Club outings
  2. Planning an outing
  3. Conducting an outing
  4. Group management
  5. Promoting conservation
  6. Resources for outings leaders

And more--the skills you need to conduct day hikes or car camping that result in safe, happy and inspired participants.

BRING a brief description of two outings you plan to lead. The library has quite a few books on suggested hikes if you need ideas. After OLT101 training, you'll be asked to lead a provisional hike with an experienced outings leader to qualify you for certification.

No matter whether you’ll lead easy, moderate or difficult hikes, there are people who will want to hike with you. Outings are about enjoying our spectacular outdoors and sharing that experience with others. As a hike leader, you set the pace, the time, the trail.

Priority for this class will be given to current Sierra Club outings leaders who may need to be re-certified. If you stay for First Aid, we'll take a lunch break before that class begins, so bring a sack lunch. See the following Meetup post to sign up for Basic First Aid (if you need it). Wilderness First Aid qualifies you.

You will be notified of the location (on the west side of Bend) after you sign up. If you need to cancel, please change your RSVP to open up a spot for someone else. If you have questions, email juniper.group@oregon.sierraclub.org.
