Let's Have a Picnic at Coyote Valley

Details

With the lifting of COVID restrictions, the Guadalupe Regional Group is pleased to celebrate with a picnic for all members of the Loma Prieta Chapter and provide free hotdogs to the first 100 arrivals. The picnic will be held in Coyote Valley. This is a way to celebrate the beauty of Coyote Valley and the recent decision by the San Jose City Council to redesignate the area in a way that will preserve its value.
San Jose City Council voted unanimously to redesignate the lands of Coyote Valley to be consistent with our shared vision of conservation to protect water quality, agriculture, wildlife, wildlife connectivity, and provide for climate resiliency. This involved changes to its General Plan and the rezoning of many properties to agriculture. Lands east of Monterey Rd. were provided flexibility in zoning, and more studies will be conducted to ensure these properties can support the agricultural industry in an environmentally sensitive manner. After the passage of Measure T by City voters in 2018, most of the lands formerly designated for industrial uses were purchased in 2019 for conservation, and public acquisitions have continued. More than 3,300 acres in and around Coyote Valley are in public ownership, and the entire 7,400 acres of the Valley are designated for agriculture and conservation.
