Hike Maiden Cliff and Scenic Trail in Camden

Details

The Maiden Cliff hike is legendary and one of Midcoast Maine's classics.

We have a 1 mile trail (rated moderately strenuous) to the cliff with a truly spectacular view of the lake. We'll take a break here to do nothing more than soak up some of Maine's coastal magnificence and ruminate over poor Elenora French, the cliff's namesake.
Then we'll proceed .8 miles more up Scenic Trail for a slightly different view. Parts of the Scenic Trail are somewhat steep, but these sections are short.
About 4 miles round trip, start to finish with an approximate 800 foot vertical climb. Hiking shoes are necessary. I prefer having poles or a hiking stick too. Bring something to drink and a snack for a sit down at the top. Arrive at 8:30 am to be ready. Hike begins at 8:45 am. Parking at Maiden Cliff is very limited. There is also parking across the street at the boat launch ramp.

This hike is for those who are in excellent physical condition. We'll have the usual assortment of roots and rocks along the way. There are no restroom facilities on this hike.

A Sierra Club waiver must be signed at the trailhead to attend this event.

DIRECTIONS: I can find no address for the trailhead, but it's easy.
From Camden, take Rte 1 to Rte 52 north 'til you see the Barretts Cove sign on the right for Megunticook Lake. GO 100 FEET FURTHER to see the trail head parking for Maiden Cliff Trail on the right.

We're looking forward to seeing you at Maiden Cliff!
