Join Sierra Club Massachusetts and TransitMatters for a Spring outing to Rockport! We will walk from the Rockport Commuter Rail station about a mile out to and along the coast stopping at multiple points along the way to speak about transit advocacy. Janet Cheung, Regional Rail Lead at TransitMatters, will speak about what Regional Rail means and how we can advocate for fast, frequent, and reliable service in MA and specifically along the Newburyport/Rockport line. It will take at minimum 2 miles of walking to return directly back to the station, but after the first mile, participants who would like to stay in Rockport longer will have the option to branch off on their own.
Optional extension: For those who would like to add a short hike onto the day, Sierra Club Massachusetts outings leaders will lead a 3 mile loop hike into the forested core of Rockport and around a pond after the initial coastal walk. Adding on this extension would make the total trip around 5 miles with approximately 400ft of elevation gain and loss.
We encourage folks to take the Commuter Rail to get there, and will be coordinating among those of register an optional meet up in North Station to ride out together. If the cost of the Commuter Rail ticket is a barrier for your participation, please reach out the leader team as you register and we can explore options.
