Sierra Club MILITARY OUTDOORS Hike

Details

Join the Tennessee Chapter and Sierra Club Military Outdoors team at the site of “the Battle Above the Clouds,” also known as the Lookout Mountain engagement, as part of the Battle of Chattanooga. We’ve intentionally chosen the site of America's First National Battlefield Park to celebrate the preservation of these lands for the public for purposes of education, reckoning with the past, and serving as places of reverence for people and communities impacted by war. As we approach Memorial Day, stewards of our national battlefields, the National Park Service, serve on the front lines of interpreting our collective stories while facing threats to operations by the current administration.

We will explore the site and go on a ~5-mile hike followed by a discussion of the outing. We'll be hiking the Cravens House and Point Park Loop, with a possible additional trek to Sunset Rock depending on how folks feel. During our time, we'll discuss a way forward to preserve the land and honor all people/communities that have sacrificed for the United States.
