Join us at the Sierra Club's monthly meeting

This Wednesday, October 8th at 7pm we'll take a fascinating look at the geological origins of our local landscape.

Norman Meek, longtime professor at Cal State San Bernardino, will explain the variety of ways that the San Andreas plate boundary at the edge of the High Desert is primarily responsible for many landscape phenomena, such as a giant alluvial fan with no apparent mountain source and one of the largest landslides on Earth.

In addition to other topics, Dr. Meek will explain, based on good scientific evidence, when the next rupture of the fault in this area is expected. To show you how "lucky" you are to have a plate boundary in your area, the next closest plate boundaries to the east and west are the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and the Marianas Islands in the western Pacific Ocean.

The Mojave Group meets at the Sterling Inn, 17738 Francesca Rd, Victorville, CA 92395 (just off Ridgecrest Road, one block north of Bear Valley Rd).

NOTE: we meet in the Media Room, at the north end of the building. Easiest entry is off Lindero St; park near the NORTH side and enter at the entrance with the overhead carport (near the covered parking area).
