OPPOSE THE FLORIDA BEAR HUNT 2025

Details

On August 13th: join a charter bus in Jacksonville that will travel to Havana FL in the wee hours of the morning to get people to the FWC meeting so that FWC sees Floridians care. The bus would return to Jacksonville.

The idea is to show up at FWC's meeting to demonstrate public opposition to the proposed bear hunt by filling up the room with black-clad supporters.

FWC's NEW PROPOSAL: would allow the killing of 187 bears across four management zones, using controversial and inhumane practices like baiting, archery, and, then starting in 2027, the use of hunting dogs.

The current proposal lacks scientific backing. The last statewide bear population estimate was conducted in 2015. The next isn’t expected until 2029 or 2030. Authorizing a hunt without updated, peer-reviewed data violates the basic principles of responsible wildlife management.

For those who remember, the 2015 hunt was a disaster.
In just two days, 304 bears were killed, including lactating mothers, which left behind orphaned cubs. This was despite FWC attempting to do real-time monitoring with check stations. The hunt spiraled out of control and had to be closed down within two days.
