Repair/Deploy Turtle Barges Along Emerald Trail

Details

In August, 2021, Sierra Club helped Groundwork Jacksonville (GWJ) build and deploy some turtle barges along the S-Line in a retention pond next to the trail.

The turtles loved them! But over time they've fallen in to disrepair. They need to be fixed or new ones need to be assembled and deployed.

We need help in the assembly. Assembly is fairly easy; no super mechanical skills are required. (We already have a Sierra Club volunteer who will retrieve the old ones and deploy the new ones with his kayak.)

Can you help? We expect the job to take a few hours. Bring water and sun screen. GWJ will supply all tools and supplies.

DIRECTIONS: SEE MAP IN PHOTOS
Your entry on to the paved S-Line trail is off Boulevard St just north of W 12 St. I'll have a Sierra Club sign along Boulevard at the spot where you would turn in.
You will turn there and drive a short distance on the paved trail to the location of the retention pond on your left.
