This unique 4.4 mile, easy to moderate, round-trip hike takes about 3.0 hours and is mostly flat the entire way. We'll take the original railroad route used during the 5 month construction of the Hoover Dam in 1931. Along the way, there'll be beautiful, panoramic views of man-made Lake Mead. How is the water level looking now? Join us and find out. The trail runs through five huge tunnels (height 30 ft), and if it's a warm day their shade is welcome. Also, we may see bats in tunnel 4, if you'd like to bring binoculars! We'll meet up at the Lake Mead National Recreation Area at the Historic Railroad Hiking Trail parking lot off Lake Shore Rd. in Boulder City. The parking lot is near the Lake Mead Alan Bible Visitor Center, 89005, and if it is full you can park at the Visitor Center and walk down a few hundred feet to the trail parking lot. We can enjoy a snack/lunch at a tunnel.

Bring water, snack/lunch, sunglasses, hat and jacket, as needed. The event is free, but there is a fee to enter Lake Mead National Recreation Area unless you have a pass.

Diana will be outing leader and can be reached on her cell at 702.327.3004. Look for her white jeep in the parking lot. This is a family friendly hike, and dogs are allowed on leash. There is no charge for the hike, and you don't have to be a member of the Sierra Club to join us.
