This unique 4.4 mile, easy to moderate, round-trip hike takes about 3.0 hours and is mostly flat the entire way. We will hike on the trail of the original railroad route used during construction of the Hoover Dam in 1931. Along the way, we'll welcome our Sierra Club Volunteer Organizer, Cullen McGinnis, and there'll be beautiful, panoramic views of man-made Lake Mead. How is the water level looking now? Join us and find out. The trail runs through five huge tunnels (height 30 ft), and if it's a warm day their shade is welcome. Also, we may see bats and falcons, if you'd like to bring binoculars! We'll meet up at the Lake Mead National Recreation Area at the Historic Railroad Hiking Trail parking lot off Lake Shore Rd. in Boulder City. The parking lot is near the Lake Mead Alan Bible Visitor Center, 89005, and if it is full you can park at the Visitor Center and walk down a few hundred feet to the trail parking lot. We can enjoy a snack/lunch at picnic tables under a shelter.

Bring water, snack/lunch, sunglasses, hat and jacket, as needed. The event is free, but there may be a fee to enter Lake Mead National Recreation Area unless you have a pass. Also, be aware that the visitors center and nearby restrooms may be closed if the government shut down continues, so you might wish to stop and do your thing in Boulder City before joining us. We will be in the parking lot closest to the trailhead; look for leader Diana's white Jeep!

Diana will be outing leader and can be reached on her cell at 702.327.3004. Janet will be our co-leader. This is a family friendly hike, and dogs are allowed on leash. There is no charge for the hike, and you don't have to be a member of the Sierra Club to join us.
