Palo Corona to Whistler Peak

Details: We will go beyond the mystery fence and explore the trail leading to Whistler Peak. I have permission and the gate code, no fence hopping required. This trail has the best ever views of Carmel and the Highlands. Starts out flat, goes straight up and levels out a bit. Past the gate is a beautiful Redwood forest with a stream running through it. There is another fairly steep hill after that leading to an open field on top of a mountain with another amazing view. Parts of the trail are pretty tough but nothing you can't do, we'll take it easy. I will pack a lunch and some snacks just in case. Who is up for exploring?

When / Where to meet: We will meet at the Palo Corona Regional Park headquarters on Carmel Valley Rd on the benches by the flagpole.

Route: 7.4ish miles, 1334’ Elevation Gain. Per Alltrails.

Bring: Hiking shoes with good traction, sunscreen, bug repellent, plenty of water and a hearty snack. A pleasant disposition!

Forecast: Partly Sunny. High 63 F

Cell phones: Assume no service past the gate. Pre-load maps. Cross your T’s and dot your I’s.

Another Note: *Explore Hike: "Explore" signifies that we are all in this together, and your host will be exploring this for the first time along with you. So, roll with the punches and bad puns, and enjoy the discovery together. You should be a reasonably confident and fit hiker to join us on an explore hike.
