This is a great hike to experience an urban to suburban transition trail, with experiences from childrens' play grounds to beaver dams, from native oaks to imported almonds, from traffic to solitude, and all with very little elevation gain. We'll start and end at the Youth Sciences Institute (YSI) in Vasona County Park, so see their website (https://www.ysi-ca.org/locations/ourcenters) and consider allowing time to explore YSI.
We'll stop for lunch at Lexington Reservoir before return on a parallel trail.
This hike will be led by your Loma Prieta Chapter Director, so feel free to bring all you Sierra Club questions and any interest in Chapter history. For example, did you know that our Chapter founders mentored a young inexperienced man in how to become a community activist, then gave him refuge when he was hunted by vigilantes fighting unions, and hosted the leaders who formed the United Farm Workers? That man was Cesar Chavez! If you'd like to hear more, this and many stories about local Chapter conservation history await you on the trail.
Happy trails,
James
