Picchetti Hike and Picnic
Details
Basic hike info: 4.2 miles, 635' elevation gain
It's time to get out and enjoy a nice break from the rain. Meet me at the Cooley Picnic Area, at the bottom of the Zinfandel Trail. Some sun, some shade. Moderate grade - no steep sections. At the winery we can relax with our lunch at the picnic tables before heading back down to the trailhead.
I think of this time of year as being quieter, perhaps a time for reflection. If we look closely, though, we'll see signs that spring is coming soon. We'll share observations along the way for those so inclined.
Since this is a Sierra Club hike, you must complete and carry with you a paper copy of the Local Outings Medical Form and sign a Liability Waiver at the trailhead. Use the link to download a medical form, if you don't already have one.
Directions: From Hwy 280 take the N Foothill Blvd exit and head south. After 1.3 miles, the street's name changes to Stevens Canyon Rd. Continue another 3.1 miles, just beyond the intersection with Mt. Eden Rd., to the Cooley Picnic Area and turn right. Hopefully there's enough parking for all of us, but there's another picnic area across the road, if necessary.
Note: The Cooley picnic area is part of Stevens Creek County Park and subject to a $6 parking fee. There's no way to pay at the site. If you don't have an annual pass or a disability placard, stop at the Chestnut parking area (before the reservoir) and pay with a credit card.
