History and Nature Walk in Alviso!

Start at the large, free parking lot at Alviso Marina County Park. (1195 Hope St, San Jose (Alviso) CA 95002)

This is not an official Sierra Club hike.

Our walk takes us past remnants of when Alviso was a tiny town, several miles from the “big city” of San Jose. We will learn about the history of flooding and
flood control measures over the years, and walk along the Guadalupe River path to where the huge water tunnel that supplies San Jose crosses the river, carrying
water from the Sierra mountains hundreds of miles away.

5 miles round trip, flat paved path, elevation gain 50 feet.

Bathrooms at the start and at the ½ way mark. It should take about 2 - 2 1/2 hours for our
walk. We can stop briefly at the 2.5 mile point before returning.

The path is popular with bicyclists and walkers, so lots of “people watching”. The
river has several bird species for birders to enjoy. It is always cooler and more
windy near the bay, so dress accordingly.

DIRECTIONS: Different depending on where you come from. Your car nav will do a fine job. Just as an example, from Milpitas: 237 West, exit N First St, right on North First, which becomes Taylor. R on Gold Street, L on Elizabeth, R on Hope.
