What we're about
Sierra Riders is a group of riders that prefer to take the road less traveled. Based near Sacramento, we go out of our way to avoid primary and secondary roads when planning rides and our spirited riding style takes full advantage of the roads we choose. This group is for experienced riders, comfortable with steep and winding mountain roads, canyon roads with steep drop offs as well as a few paved "goat roads" thrown in for good measure (No dirt/gravel roads). While we are in no way "knee draggers", those joining should be comfortable taking curves at 10-15 mph higher than the yellow "recommended" speeds. It does not matter what motorcycle you ride, but being able to ride well is a must.
This is not a club so no dues, no meetings, just riding. Each member is responsible for their own safety and riding decisions. Some rides may contain roads that are narrow, steep, winding or all of these. It is your responsibility, as a rider, to decide where or if you want to follow. Due to the types of roads we ride, scooters and trikes are not suitable.
In an effort to keep things fun and safe, all new members will be "vetted" on a ride or two to make sure they fit in with the group as well as our sense of adventure and riding style. This goes both ways as you may not find this group matches your expectations in some way.
It's been my experience that there are a lot of riders that sign up to these groups yet seldom if ever ride. This group is a "riding group" and those who join should plan on attending at least one ride, every few months. Most rides will be limited to 10 riders or less.
This Meetup group is limited to 50 members. When our membership reaches 40, I will begin trimming the roster of non participating members to allow room for new signups.
Most ride events will specify the general area, distance and return time for the ride but I do not post exact routes. If you want to know the route, you just need to come on the ride.
All ride times posted are (KSU) departure times. Please be fueled up and ready to go at this time as I will not wait for late arrivals.
I usually put several overnight rides on the calendar each year. Please make sure you attend a few day rides prior to signing up for an overnight ride.
New members should ride their own motorcycle (not be a passenger) with (at least 500cc), be licensed and insured, be located in the Sacramento area and be comfortable riding all types of paved roads.
