## On Saturday, September 26, thousands of Californians will join hands in solidarity across our coastline and waterways, and send one message: no new offshore oil drilling.
The federal government has proposed opening roughly 1.27 billion acres of American waters to offshore oil and gas leasing, including six potential lease sales off California, with the first Central Coast sales possible as soon as 2027. That would be the first offshore oil leasing near the Central Coast since 1963.
We already know how this story ends. Santa Barbara, 1969. Refugio, 2015. There is no safe way to drill for oil off this coast, only different ways to spill it.
Hands Across the Sand is our answer, and it is deliberately simple. We gather at beaches and waterfronts across the state, hear brief remarks from local leaders, join hands at the water’s edge, and take one unified photo that shows the country exactly what California wants.
No experience needed. No sign to make. Bring your kids, bring your neighbors, wear green, and give us an hour of your Saturday.
Our coast is a working coastline: fishing families, tourism towns, marine sanctuaries, and wildlife found nowhere else on earth. It is not a place to drill.
