Paddle the Elkhorn

Details
Location: Elkhorn Creek, American Whitewater access, Peaks Mill RD, Frankfort, KY
About:
Enjoy a leisurely paddle on the scenic Elkhorn Creek near Frankfort, KY. We will meet at the American Whitewater access off Peaks Mill Road, shuttle a few cars to the take-out, and then paddle approximately 11 miles to a location off US 127. This section of the creek, located downstream from the popular whitewater section, remains a favorite among paddlers.
This is typically a beginner-friendly section for paddling, but there are always risks with flowing waters. The pace will be fairly leisurely, though dependent on flow. We will stop for a lunch break and spend most of the day on the water.
This trip may be canceled due to unsafe weather or stream flow. Updates will be provided on Meetup closer to the trip date so please look for those.
You will need to provide your own gear (kayak/canoe, paddles, life vests). A dry bag is recommended for anything that shouldn’t get wet. Don’t forget to bring water, snacks, lunch, and sun protection. Expect to get wet. If you have questions about gear or experience needed, feel free to message a trip leader for more information.
If people are interested in carpooling, feel free to comment and coordinate in this event. There will be a shuttle at the beginning to drop off a few cars at the take-out, and we will coordinate at the end to get people back to their cars at the put-in.
Wearing a PFD is required by the group while on the water. You will be asked to sign a Sierra Club waiver to participate, and it is recommended to print and complete a medical form here to carry with you in case of emergency.
