Enjoy a morning autumn hike at the Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge in nearby Prince William County, Virginia. Located at the Tidewater junction of Belmont Bay and the Potomac River, with distant views of Mason Neck and the Maryland shore, the Occoquan Bay Refuge is known for marshes, ponds, and a large population of bald eagles.
Our route follows the refuge's excellent trail system and a new section of the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail that also includes adjacent Veterans Memorial Park. Distance: 5 miles over totally flat terrain. After the hike, there will be a talk by the refuge manager about the Lower Potomac River National Wildlife Refuges at the new state of the art visitor center. Meet at 9AM at the main Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge at the end of Dawson Creek Road in Woodbridge, Virginia.
