Hike the Lower Mount Vernon Trail (ODH Training #7)

Details

Join us for a 13.5 mile out-and-back hike on the paved Mount Vernon Trail with a loop around Fort Hunt Park. The trail takes you along a tranquil and scenic section of the Potomac River between Mount Vernon and Dyke Marsh. Eagles and osprey have been spotted in previous years. If participants are interested, there can be a post-hike stop at the Mount Vernon Shops/Restaurant. Meet at 9:30 am at the NORTH end of the EAST parking lot for George Washington's Mount Vernon. There are restrooms in the Visitor Center; others along the trail and in Fort Hunt Park (heated!).

Dress for the weather (It's all about layers); bring ample water, snacks, lunch and footwear that can go the distance.

There is no cost but SCPRO kindly requests a $2 donation to help support club expenses.

Although open to all, this hike is part of a series of Saturday training hikes leading up to the One Day Hike (ODH) 100 or 50 km along the C&O Canal on May 3, 2025. Peruse the SCPRO Meetup site for other training hikes as they are posted. If you would like to support the ODH, see volunteering opportunities and/or contact Mike Darzi (mike.darzi@gmail.com).
