Cunningham Falls Manor Area to White Rock and Beyond via Catoctin Trail

Details

Join us to hike a beautiful section of the Catoctin Trail for a 6.2 mile out and back from the “Manor Area” of Cunningham Falls State Park to ¾ of a mile past White Rock. This is a moderate to strenuous climb at 2-2.5mph with an Elevation gain of 1,300 ft. This section of the Catoctin Trail has one creek crossing that we traverse over rocks. The climb starts after that through deciduous forests (some noise from Rt. 15 for first ¾ mile) and both smooth and rocky trail surfaces. We will take a break at White Rock which has a great eastern view of the forested and farm lands in northern Frederick Co. and then continue for another ¾ of a mile, crossing a northern section of Gambrill Park Rd. past two small lakes that are part of the Frederick Municipal Forest and Watershed. That will be our turn around point. Parts of the trail can be quite rocky.

Please arrive with enough time to register and prepare for a 9:30 am departure.

PLEASE BRING: Water or other hydrating liquid, snacks, bug spray, sunscreen, good hiking shoes or boots and poles if you use them (especially to cross a stream).

MANOR AREA PARK FEE: Maryland residents $3/vehicle; out-of-state residents $5/vehicle. Bring appropriate bills.

SCPRO appreciates a voluntary $2 per person donation to support our administration fees and many volunteer-led activities. Also, you can become a Sierra Club member by clicking "join" on the Sierra Club website: http://www.sierraclub.org/virginia.
