Fairfax Cross County Trail (ODH Training Hike #7)
Details
NOTE: Although this hike is slated to be held on the Fairfax Cross County Trail, we may need to use an alternate route if trail conditions do not clear up before 2/21. The original route description follows: Join us for a flat, go-at-your-own-pace hike with options of 14 or 15 miles on a pleasant, wooded trail with little elevation change along Accotink Creek in Fairfax County.
Starting at the Audrey Moore Recreation Center in Wakefield Park, Annandale VA, both hike options go northwest to Thaiss Park in Fairfax via the Gerald Connolly Cross County Trail (CCT) before returning to Wakefield Park and continuing south. The 14-mile hike continues to a green 2.0-mile post at a trail junction with a kiosk and bench. Turn around at the post and return to the recreation center. The 15-mile hike continues south 1/2 mile farther to a green 2.5-mile post. Turn around at the post and return to the recreation center. Colored chalk arrows will mark the turns.
The entrance into Wakefield Park is the first right on Braddock Road west of I-495 (Exit 54A). The recreation center is 0.5 mi. from Braddock Road, past the baseball field parking lots. Meet at the benches in front of the recreation center.
A voluntary $2.00 donation per event or an equivalent amount to cover a period of time is requested. Your donation funds SCPRO leader training and administrative costs.
You need not be a Sierra Club member to participate, but if you'd like to join, go to: http://www.sierraclub.org/virginia .
Leaders: Gary Kosciusko, (703) 946-8111, and Frank Wodarczyk (703) 624-1040.
