Hike a stretch of the legendary Appalachian National Scenic Trail along the Potomac River from Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. After meeting at the Harpers Ferry National Historical Park Visitor Center, we will take the park shuttle bus to the historic town before crossing the Potomac River to the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal. This stretch of the C&O Canal along the rapids below the meeting of the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers is also the route of the Appalachian Trail. Our out and back hike along this section of the C&O Canal (Appalachian Trail) will go downriver
to our turnaround point at Weverton below South Mountain. Distance: 6 miles over flat terrain. After our return we will explore the historic town of Harpers Ferry, including the Appalachian Trail Conservancy. Bring a daypack, hiking boots, lunch, trail snacks, and quart of water.
