Caltrans Traffic Operations Research Outlook

Learn how Caltrans' planning, testing and technology assessment teams are working to keep the State at the forefront of the rapidly evolving connected and automated vehicle space. Caltrans' Office of Transportation Research evaluates new technologies by mounting its own testing as well as collaborating with academic and private-sector partners. The future direction of the transportation and mobility sectors will be heavily be impacted by the State's decisions about new infrastructure investments and regulations.

Presenter: Greg Larson, Chief, Office of Traffic Operations Research, Caltrans Division of Research, Innovation and System Information

Greg Larson has worked for Caltrans for more than 23 years, first as a Research Engineer at the Transportation Laboratory, then as a Senior Electronics Engineer and an Engineering Manager. Before joining Caltrans, He spent eight years working for the United States Air Force as a System Engineer for electronic warfare systems. Greg is responsible for managing and overseeing the efforts of a professional technical staff performing research in the area of Intelligent Transportation Systems, with the Division of Traffic Operations and various Districts as their primary customers. He also serves as one of the AASHTO representatives on the national Connected Vehicle Deployment Coalition. Greg has a bachelor's and master's degree in EE from Cal State University, Sacramento and is licensed as a Professional Electrical Engineer in the state of California.

As a special bonus, Ricardo Anguiano of Mentor Graphics will demonstrate their automotive active noise cancellation technology in a nearby room specially set up for that purpose.
