Railsconf debrief & The Gilded Rose Kata!

Details

6:45 - 7:00 Networking and socializing

7:00 - 7:30 Railsconf highlights and debriefing

7:30 - 9:00 Share code and discuss the Gilded Rose kata

You are invited to complete the Gilded Rose kata, an exercise in refactoring code, before the event. Bring your laptop and your code so we can share and discuss.

The Gilded Rose kata, and the instructions for it, can be found at

http://craftsmanship.sv.cmu.edu/posts/gilded-rose-kata

The code we'll be refactoring is at https://github.com/professor/GildedRose

This Kata is appropriate for all levels, and beginners are encouraged to give it a try. As this is about the process as much as the result, there are no "wrong answers." If you need help or guidance, please contact John Glass (https://www.meetup.com/silicon-valley-ruby/members/3406169/) or anyone else on the leadership team.

When you are done, please answer these questions and post to the website as a comment. (You log in with a github account)

  1. Why would you recommend (or not recommend) this activity to a peer?
  2. What worked well?
  3. What didn't work well?
  4. Where there any 'ah-hah!' moments or unintended consequences?
