A Practical View of Data and Information Extraction

Details
This meetup will feature a presentation by Ivan Miletic:
Software Developers are often faced with working with data for various clients. In these projects, data are treated and used in various ways that include computing and displaying simple summary statistics to the application of more complex algorithms used in numerical methods and machine learning. There can often be a disconnect between software developers and data users where data storage and retrieval can be the main focus instead of meaningful data use. This presentation will show some typical uses of numerical data from a practitioners point of view.
A description of useful data treatment methods will be presented and examples will be shown on how to extract information from correlated and incomplete data sets, and how to make useful predictive models. These methods have been used in various industries and stem from over two decades of experience with both off-line and real-time data in applications of fault detection, classification, predictive modelling and forecasting, quality control, process optimization, and feedback control.
Hope to see you there!
