About us
Note: Pinning the location to Woodinville as I can't come all the way down to Seattle or the Eastside regularly. Hoping to draw people from north and south to a compromised middle location--but willing to flex some, especially for big events.
The irony of me creating this group is that I hate a lot of standup (the type that leans "shock jock"), which I should tell you guys outright; nevertheless, I'm just sick of this MAGA nonsense sucking out everyone's joy, and I want to bring women together for this one purpose: goofing off. I'm also sick of our cultural moment brainwashing people with the idea that meanness is the height of comedy, given we all know pure goofiness is funnier. I want us to get back in touch with our inner goofballs.
Basically, we'll go see standup, improv, comedy theatre, comedy films, do miscellaneous stuff that will allow us to get silly (disco dancing? bowling? BINGO? hiking/frolicking? costume parties?). Maybe we could picnic and watch comedies in the park; I could buy and bring a projector, maybe. I'd have to call parks and rec to ask, but doesn't that sound fun?
Personally, I might be open to writing silly sketches together--just to amuse ourselves, not to post online. Although, if comedians want to use this group to organize/write filmed sketches, I'm okay with that as organizer! I might even be able to pass on the group to a co-organizer eventually (my organizer membership is going to end summer 2027)--someone who is more sincerely interested in leading a women's comedy writing group. For now, though, I just want to found this group as a general one where women can come to share laughter.
