Our First walk of the year: Lagoa de Óbidos

Lagoa de Óbidos Nature Walk — Opening Walk of the Season
We’re starting the walking season with a beautiful and easy trail along the Lagoa de Óbidos near Foz do Arelho. After the heavy rains we’ve been having, this is a perfect choice: the terrain is mostly flat, with boardwalk sections through the wetlands and sandy paths along the lagoon. It’s one of the most scenic and accessible walks in the area.
The route is approximately 6–8 km, mostly flat, and we’ll walk at a relaxed pace so we can enjoy the views and the wildlife. The lagoon is a haven for birdlife—herons, egrets, cormorants, and sometimes flamingos—so binoculars are highly encouraged if you have them.
Meeting Point:
Parking area near Clube de Vela da Lagoa, Foz do Arelho
(look for the lagoon-side parking by the sailing club)
Meeting Time: 8:45-9 AM
We will leave the meeting point promptly at 9:00, so please arrive a few minutes early.
What to Bring
- Comfortable walking shoes
- Water
- A jacket (the lagoon can be breezy)
- Sun protection
- Binoculars if you have them
This will be a relaxed and social walk to kick off the season, with plenty of opportunities to enjoy the landscape and spot wildlife along the lagoon.
Looking forward to seeing everyone there.
