What we’re about
At Simple Ashtanga Yoga we LOVE! Ashtanga Yoga :)
Why do we love it so much?
1) We love the feeling after each session. Even after having practiced almost every day for more then ten years the body still feels refreshed, energized, younger and healthier every time. It is like an addiction with benefits.
2) You get to work on the basics. The practice allows you to dive deep into the functionality of your own body and to discover the basic principles of posture and movement. Any improvement directly translates to all your daily activities.
3) There is a sheer endless depth to the sensations you can experience. Since you get to practice the same movements each session, you really get to know them well. Ultimately you get to know your body in ways that you might have not been aware of before.
What is Ashtanga Yoga and how is this different at Simple Ashtanga Yoga?
Ashtanga Yoga is a traditional Yoga practice that is considered by many the most challenging form of Yoga. It has enormous benefits for the body but requires an equally big amount of dedication and sacrifice to learn and master. At Simple Ashtanga Yoga we have taken the spirit of Ashtanga Yoga that lies in its methodical practice and have adapted it to a modern, active lifestyle so that it can be approached with less sacrifice and intensity and still yield the most essential benefits for your body. You can join the practice no matter your level of experience, since each movement can be adapted in complexity and difficulty.
We don't practice Yoga as a spiritual tradition but rather as a methodical tool to achieve physical and mental well-being.
But simple doesn't mean easy.
Even in its simplified version, Ashtanga Yoga will be very challenging for the average person. Reaching a comfortable full-lotus seat, relaxing in a headstand or even just keeping a steady breath throughout your session can be overwhelming at first, but we will carefully and thoughtfully guide you, so you can master your practice in the long-term.
How does it work?
The practice itself takes about 60 - 75 minutes. Afterwards we invite you to stay for a tea and talk about the experience or get to know each other. But we won't be offended if you continue with your day :)
We are a small group and we will stay small!
What does that mean? It means you will receive individual attention to your strengths and challenges and high-quality guidance through your Yoga-journey. But it also means that your commitment MATTERS. Please RSVP to our events only if you feel sure that you can participate that day.
Who leads the practice?
The practice is led by Piotr. He has been introduced to Ashtanga Yoga more than ten years ago and after learning the sequence in several studios went on to practice daily on his own and adapt it to his individual needs. Yoga was the main reason he could recover from a severe sports injury and fully restore the functionality of his body. Over the years he has simplified the sequence and his approach and is now teaching what he has learned.
