Details

We’ve seen a lot of amazing ideas for applications of blockchain recently – from self-managing cars to blockchain-based novels (https://medium.com/@teau/a-universe-explodes-a-blockchain-book-ab75be83f28) to digital voting (https://www.newscientist.com/article/mg23531424-500-bitcoin-tech-to-put-political-power-in-the-hands-of-voters/) to managing music rights (https://blockgeeks.com/guides/blockchain-applications/)… the list goes on.

In partnership with Venturefest (http://venturefestbristolandbath.com/) – celebrating innovation in Bristol and Bath – we’re inviting you to create working prototypes or concepts for projects exploring how we can use blockchain to create a positive impact on cities in the future.

Great apps aren’t just about tech, so as well as developers, we’re inviting all creative, business-minded and ideas people to get involved. Whatever your area of expertise, everyone is welcome.

This Simpleweb Challenge is sponsored by Invest Bristol and Bath (https://www.bristolandbath.co.uk/) – supporting and championing investment in amazing local companies.

The challenge

We're challenging you to create working prototypes or concepts for projects exploring how we can use blockchain to create a positive impact on cities in the future.

The rules

We want The Simpleweb Challenge to be totally fair so we’re going to lay down a few ground rules…

No coding or creating mockups before the night - preparation is good, and you’re welcome to a bit of research beforehand, but you can’t have started on the code or mockups for your project until the night.

NOTE: If you are using blockchain technology, please make sure that you have the necessary software installed and the relevant blockchain in sync before you arrive. There won’t be enough time or bandwidth to support setting up on the night! There’s some links in the ‘further reading’ section to help you get set up.

You can work in teams of up to 3 people. The winning team will take away a great prize (TBA).

Not a developer? We recommend using Sketch (https://www.sketchapp.com/) or Marvel (https://marvelapp.com/) (both have free trials!) to prototype your idea.

Who can come?

Anyone’s welcome at the Simpleweb Challenge hacknight!

If you’re a developer, come code something cool. Not a developer? You can submit digital prototypes showing how your idea would work. Everyone’s in for a chance of winning!

What should I expect?

We’ll start the night with some homemade food followed by a super quick introduction.

After that it’s time to get hacking. You’ll have about 3 hours to work on your project. We’ll keep the drinks flowing throughout!

At the end of the night, each team will get a couple of minutes to show off their idea and vote for the winner(s).

Prizes will be revealed here a few days before the night!
