please check back here a few hours before event for any weather cancellations!

please arrive at least 15min early and be ready to launch at 715. might be a big group, so not able to wait for late arrivers.

sunset is just after 8, and moonrise isn't until 3am, so if the sky is clear, we might see Perseids meteors on their peak night!

we launch from Farrington point cartop ramps (not the motorboat ramps).
Farrington Point Boat Ramp

enter there and go left at the fork. The motor boat side usually has a porta-potty.

please do not use white or green running lights, or any other bright light as it will prevent us from accommodating to the dark sky after sunset. if that's all you have, please cover it. i'll try to remember to bring red cellophane.

think about comfort staring up at the sky for an hour. in kayak, maybe a waterproof pillow to lean back on? i think we'll try to find a beach area so we can also choose to float in the water on pool floats or pool noodles.

note that a white light and whistle are required by law. a flashlight in a ziplock bag can suffice. but since white lights are blinding to others at night, SK also REQUIRES you to wear or have mounted on your boat a red (best) or soft green light or other soft light that is on at all times after dark. the red light can be as simple as this, clipped to boat or pfd

you can generally buy lights like this at walmart, rei, etc.

this one is great because it serves both purposes:

please don’t leave the group at night without informing trip organizer!

Sorry but no inflatables. SUPs are ok as long as you can comfortably do 2mh+ to keep up with us. they might be great to lie on for this event.

PFD and whistle are required on all SK events. Bring water, sunscreen, bug spray, snacks as needed. There are no restrooms at this location.

remember that you always paddle at your own risk. simply kayaking is a club for getting old and new friends together, and bears no responsibility for your safety or convenience.

more fun, less drama!
