let’s paddle lake michie in north durham county (rescheduled)

we don’t often go to this beautiful lake because the lunch fee for non-Durham residence is kind of high ($5 for durham residents, $10 for nonresidents), but an interesting paddle and adventure awaits!

Let’s meet at the boathouse at Lake Michie (pronounced like mickey) at 930. it will take a while for us to sign in at the boathouse (they require a waiver) and hopefully will be on the water by 10, and have a nice long paddle of 8-10 miles.

Will start by heading right from the launch, and up the little river as far as possible. It’s a really beautiful area that ends in a Rocky Creek. Then we’ll head back to the lake and investigate the area around the really interesting dam. then head out to the farthest corners of the lake and the small creeks that feed it. due to the rocky areas, a plastic kayak is better here than fragile composites.

Will stop someplace for lunch and stretching legs.

as always, you must wear your pfd, and have a waterproof whistle.

then after the paddle, optionally join me for a very short drive up the road to visit Spruce Pine Lodge, and a short walk to the rocky creek that is one of my favorite places in all of Durham.
