Rhodes Pond is a sweet cypress pond with beauty and history that you can read about here: https://www.distinctlyfayettevillenc.com/listing/rhodes-pond/6864/ Please read full description to see if this is the right paddle for you as group size is limited, please don’t rsvp unless you’re sure about attending, it's one hr. from me in Durham.
here’s the launch location:
https://maps.app.goo.gl/ZeG57vqnCdiQaC8Z9?g_st=ic or you can use: 35°13'41.2"N 78°38'51.4"W
Please arrive by 9:30 and be ready to launch promptly at 10:00.
With the rain we've been having the pond should be full and host all kinds of spring plants, wildlife, etc. There'll probably be fisherman out as I hear they've been catching bass that are stocked. First we'll follow any flow and go upstream as far as we can, then investigate any nooks and crannies we see that interest us on the way back to put-in.
I'm seeing different amts. of acreage about the pond, so can't know for sure how large it is. But I'm looking forward to a beautiful spring paddle on a probably very warm day, predicted to be 90 degrees!
wearing a PFD absolutely required on all Simply Kayaking paddles.
Bring water, sunscreen, lunch/snacks.
the old bathroom was not reopened when we did a recon trip there a last year, but there are a couple of places where it’s not too hard to find some shoreline and woods to stretch legs.
i’m not enabling guests because it’s a small venue and I'm posting on both SK and CKC sites. If you've got a friend that wants to attend, have them become a member to either group. OR if you like the pond you can go back another time with your friends and family.
Remember that you always paddle at your own risk. Simply Kayaking is a club for getting paddlers together, and bears no responsibility for your safety or convenience.
More fun, less drama!
