It's hilly country if you want to bring your bike for variety, or there's tubing for short or long trips as well. Paddles: 1) Harts Access at 704 to Hanging Rock/Flinchum Rd. 1487 - 12.8 mile paddle, 2) Flinchum Rd 1487 access to Moratock Park Boat Access, Danbury, - 5.1 mile paddle, 3) Moratock Park Access (GPS coordinates: 36.4088, -80.1965) to Hemlock Access at Power House Rd. #1732 - 9.1 mile paddle. Shuttles required by all. *Class 1s and 2s throughout depending on water level, be prepared for these gentle wave trains and drops*. Dan River banks should be resplendent with Mt. Laurel and Rhododendron, water running clear and scenery rated A+. If it rains we can always play cards/games in the Mill, hike in Hanging Rock St Park, drive to a zip line, share a drink at Green Heron Ale House, so many choices!
Logistics: PFD and whistle required, please don't sign up if you're not prepared to experience the class 1s and 2s, but they are fun learning experiences. Plastic/Shorter boats, cross-over boats, canoes best as there are rocks in this foot hills river. No inflatables /paddle boards please. You always paddle at your own risk. Simply Kayaking is a club for getting paddlers together, and bears no responsibility for your safety or convenience. Be prepared to offer your car in shuttle. Camp someplace besides Jessup Mill but be prepared with your maps/directions to meet us for shuttles on time.
