Friday Cold Water Paddle at Holt Lake (north of Durham.)

Let’s paddle holt Lake!
this is not a good paddle for beginners
water levels should be near normal, allowing us to reach the farthest northern corner of the lake, where there is a nice rocky stream to have lunch.
GEAR: I don’t know the water temp at holt lake, but falls lake is only around 50 degrees, so this cold water paddle for more experienced paddlers, and requires Drysuits or Wetsuits. Falling in the water can be life threatening.
WEATHER:
Ambient temperatures forecast unseasonably warm in high 70, but the water is still dangerously cold!
DIRECTIONS:
From Route 64, it's 6.7 miles north on Route 751 or approx. 5 miles going south from I-40.
LAUNCH/ PARKING:
We will launch at concrete boat ramp. Pay $3 launch fee at concession up the hill from the launch. concession also has bathrooms and some food/drink items.
plenty of parking available near ramp.
ARRIVAL:
Please arrive by 1000 am to unload, pay launch fee, and be in the water by 1030 am..
DISTANCE:
Hope to cover 5-7 miles
MANDATORY:
You must wear cold water paddle clothes, PFD, and carry a signaling device (whistle / horn) and have a spare set of warm clothes in dry sack in case you fall in.
RECOMMENDED:
Water, a hat, sunglasses, lunch/snacks, layer up for wind and cold water, binoculars
