Fingers crossed for great weather! But you know that sometimes storms have a different plan, so please check website a few hours before launch for any last-minute changes
The water is warming up fast , but still a little chilly. Wearing non-absorbent clothing (not cotton) is usually a good idea, and you might bring an emergency change of clothes in a dry bag. bring snacks if you like, and though it’s probably not swimming time yet, you could bring lighted balls or frisbees, or decorate your kayak with lights, as long as they are not too bright and can be shut off.
Be prepared to paddle 4 to 5 miles. We will certainly find a shoreline to stretch legs or have a nature break. As usual, inflatable kayaks are not invited on simply kayaking events. bug spray might be a good idea!
ABSOLUTELY REQUIRED:
- wearing your PFD at all times
- bringing a waterproof whistle for signaling, per state law
- for nighttime paddles, state law requires you to have at least one light on your kayak. We strongly prefer that it is not just a white light, as they are too bright to enjoy the dark. I strongly suggest a boat light that is red, such as a flashlight that can be set to red color, or wrapped with red plastic if you need help with picking the best kayak light, ask questions in the comments section for this event
